Shifts Illustrated [Vol 01]

This comic tells the story of Hei, a Herbal Tea Vendor in Shau Kei Wan. No matter how rapidly the outside world changes, Hei is determined to keep her little shop running, hoping to pass on the wonderful Chinese culture - Herbal Tea, to the next generations.

Shifted Illustration is a three-month illustration project, initiated by the students from the Academy of Visual Arts at the Hong Kong Baptist University in collaboration with Hong Kong Shifts. The project is to explore and experiment with storytelling and visual reinterpretation of the stories of Hong Kong shift workers, reconstructing stories from editorial articles into illustrations. Through the use of illustration as a research method, the students aim to investigate the relationship and social context between their creative practice and the creation of a series of visual narratives that respond to current social content. This project aims to offer a nuanced and insightful exploration of the lives of Hong Kong shift workers, and to stimulate discussion and reflection on their experiences and contributions to society.
